July 21, 2021 [The Olympics]
I remembered back in 2018 when I first arrived in Japan. People were already talking about Tokyo Olympics 2020 and how excited they were. A friend of mine even showed me some funny promotional videos for the upcoming olympics and it seems that everyone could not wait any longer. Due to all the hype and buildup, I too became quite excited and was curious to see how the atmosphere in Tokyo would be like when the olympics finally arrives.
Sadly, due to the unexpected outbreak of Covid-19 since 2020, the olympic had to be postponed. I cannot even begin to imagine the disappointment of the Japanese people, as it seems that they took so much pride in being able to host the olympics again after 57 years. I think everyone can also tell that Japan went all out to prepare for the olympics, and due to the pandemic they surely had some major losses.
However, our safety and health comes first. Moreover, we can still enjoy the olympics through live broadcasts. I guess what's important now is that hopefully we all do our part in society to ensure that this pandemic will hopefully come to an end soon.
Stay safe everyone!

Japan did have Winter Olympics twice since then, but nobody seems to be as interested. I wonder what the legacy will be of 2020 years from now. I doubt Japan will get another summer games for a long time, probably 2060 or later. Ill be almost 100 by then!
ReplyDeleteWhether they hosted or not, there's going to be public backlash as everyone is about 50/50 about this matter. It's good that they hold tighter health measures. It's better be safe than sorry. To have hosted than never hosted at all.
ReplyDeleteIf the Olympics are canceled, there will be a deficit and players who have worked for four years will be damaged. I don't want people to blame the Olympics either.
