One of my all time favorite songs is "Champagne Supernova" by an English rock band called "Oasis". The song was written by the band's songwriter and lead guitarist, Noel Gallagher, and it was released back in May 1995. Although this song was released before I was even born, I hear this song quite often when I was growing up in the early 2000s. This song ended up growing on me and I still listen to it often until today. There was even a time when I tried to learn how to play this song on the guitar, but I was truly horrible and I decided to just be content listening to it.
The songwriter is not very clear on what the song is truly about, as he said that the song means different things to different people. In my opinion, it is a song about celebrating our youths.
"How many special people change?
How many lives are livin' strange?
Where were you while we were getting high?
Slowly walking down the hall
Faster than a cannonball
Where were you while we were getting high?"

A+++! Oasis is one of my favorite bands! I have been a fan since 1994 and actually they played their first tour in my home town before they were popular in America, so almost nobody was there! My favorite song from this album is Some Might Say but they were all great. This song, I remember was on the radio a lot in 1995 but the DJ often cut the song short because it is 7 minutes long. Can you walk slowly but faster than a cannon? That is quite a question.
ReplyDeleteGlad you are also a fan! I wish i could've watched them too... Also, why would they cut a 7 minute masterpiece of a song..?? I do not understand haha
DeleteThis song doesn't seem like a song about celebrating our youth to me. It feels like someone searching for what was missing, perhaps a friend or lover who went away. All the while times feels to be moving so slow yet flies by quickly too and you are lost. Now, trying to find a way back to stability.
ReplyDeleteWow that is quite a great analysis! Maybe it is about that hmm....
